City attending to emergency repairs of damaged sewer main in Fisantekraal

The City’s Water and Sanitation Department is currently conducting emergency repairs to its 800mm diameter sewer main that services the housing development in Greenville in Fisantekraal.  The damaged sewer main has resulted in an extensive spillage in the vicinity of Boy Brier Road.  Read more below:

To implement immediate risk reduction and containment measures, the sewer pump stations that are linked to the sewer main have been switched off and sewer tankers have been commissioned to fulfil the conveyance function.

The sewer maintenance crews are utilising sewer tankers to clean up the spillage and ponding. This process will be followed by the application of bio-enzymes and the disinfection of the contaminated areas.

Residents that reside in close proximity to the contaminated area are requested to be observant of the contamination and for health reasons, refrain from entering these areas.  It is important that maintenance crews are allowed free, unhampered movement of their vehicles to speed up the repair and cleansing processes.

The City regrets any inconvenience caused while conducting these emergency repairs.
